AFCON Qualifier: Botswana draw Libya 2-2

Botswana star, Tumisang Orebonye scored twice but his side surrendered a two-goal advantage as they drew 2-2 with Libya in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Tripoli on Wednesday.

Orebonye opened the scoring in the 29th minute after connecting with a long ball played over Libya’s defence before heading past goalkeeper Ayman Al Tihar.

The 30-year-old doubled Botswana’s advantage 14 minutes later.

He controlled a clearance from his defence, raced beyond his marker and fired a low shot into the net to give the visitors a commanding lead at half-time.

Libya responded after the restart and reduced the deficit through Maruwan Alhibeeshi in the 87th minute.

The hosts then completed their comeback when Ezoo Al Mariamy converted a penalty with a minute remaining to earn Libya a share of the points.

The Group H encounter was played behind closed doors at the Tripoli International Stadium following a CAF sanction against the venue over an incident in 2025.

Botswana, who had recorded one win, two draws and two defeats in their previous five matches, will host Tunisia on September 28, while Libya will face Uganda on the same day.
