Adeleke’s campaign spokesman threatens Osun senator with ₦10bn defamation suit

The campaign spokesman for Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has threatened to sue Senator Francis Fadahunsi for ₦10bn over alleged defamatory statements made against him.

Olajengbesi, through his lawyer, Hammed Lasisi, issued the threat in a letter dated August 12, 2026, demanding that the senator representing Osun East Senatorial District retract the alleged statements and issue a public apology within 24 hours.

The letter followed comments allegedly made by Fadahunsi during television interviews on Viable TV on July 2 and Channels Television’s Politics Today on August 11.

Olajengbesi’s lawyer said the senator had questioned his client’s identity and accused him of having links with cult groups and using their members for political activities.

According to the letter, Fadahunsi had during the July interview described Olajengbesi as someone who was “not even from the same Ijebu-Jesha” and claimed he was “from somewhere in Ogun State.”

The senator was also alleged to have accused Olajengbesi of “using thugs, Eiye and Aye.”

The lawyer argued that the comments portrayed his client as someone who sponsored or deployed members of the Eiye and Aye groups to further his political interests.

The letter further referenced Fadahunsi’s appearance on Politics Today, during which he allegedly linked Olajengbesi to the late Ajayi Aderogba, popularly known as Rogba.

Fadahunsi was quoted as saying, “Rogba is an Eiye man sponsored by Barr. Olajengbesi terrorising the whole … my own territory up and down through all these Eiye and Aye.”

Olajengbesi denied the allegations, describing them as false and damaging to his reputation as a lawyer, public figure and political candidate.

The lawyer said, “Our Client has never sponsored, financed, supported, patronised or otherwise provided resources to any cult group or its members for criminal, political or other unlawful activities.”

He also denied that Olajengbesi had authorised anyone to intimidate, attack or terrorise members of the public on his behalf.

The letter demanded that Fadahunsi retract the alleged defamatory comments using the same media platforms through which they were published and issue an “unequivocal and unreserved public apology.”

The lawyer warned that failure to comply within the stipulated 24-hour period would lead to legal action against the senator.

He said the proposed suit would seek ₦10bn in general and aggravated damages for alleged defamation and injurious falsehood.

As of the time of the report, there was no response from Senator Fadahunsi to the allegations and legal threat.
