The operation, carried out by personnel of the 12 Composite Brigade on November 3, also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and a large cache of ammunition.
The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Composite Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday night.
Abdullahi said the operation followed an earlier raid on a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in the forest on November 2, when troops engaged the criminals.
He explained that the latest exercise involved tracking fleeing suspects and searching other hideouts in the area.
Items recovered during the operation included two AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, 438 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition, 4,725 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two bandoliers, two mobile phones and a power bank.
According to the Army spokesman, the operation strengthened the gains recorded during the previous day’s raid and demonstrated the brigade’s determination to eliminate criminal activities within its area of responsibility.
He said, “The successful exploitation operation further consolidates the gains recorded during the previous day’s raid and underscores the Brigade’s determination to sustain pressure on criminal elements operating within its area of responsibility.”
Abdullahi added that troops remained in control of the general area, with their morale and operational effectiveness still high.
He said the military would sustain its operations to protect residents, safeguard property and restore lasting peace and security across Kogi State.
The Army also noted that the 12 Composite Brigade had been working with the Kogi State Police Command and other security agencies to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities in parts of the state.
