The Federal Government says it is implementing comprehensive reforms in the civil service to improve productivity, strengthen accountability and eliminate corruption.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Olumuyiwa Enitan, disclosed this on Saturday at the valedictory ceremony held in honour of the outgoing 13th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Enitan, who chaired the occasion, said the reforms were designed to make the civil service more efficient, productive, transparent and responsive to the needs of citizens.
He explained that the initiative was part of President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda and was aimed at ensuring effective implementation of government policies to improve Nigerians’ living conditions.
According to him, the reforms would be pursued more vigorously under his leadership as Head of Service.
He said, “The Federal Civil Service is undergoing holistic and focused reforms to become more efficient, productive, incorruptible and citizen-centred.”
Enitan also expressed confidence that the reforms would have positive effects on the country’s university system.
He commended Adebowale for sustaining the University of Ibadan’s reputation while strengthening its capacity to respond to emerging challenges.
In his valedictory address, Adebowale described leadership as a responsibility that required careful decisions, consultation and commitment to institutional development.
He said his administration had worked to strengthen the university but acknowledged that more needed to be done, particularly in the area of infrastructure and funding.
“Any organisation that does not care for its people cannot fulfil its mission,” he said.
The outgoing vice-chancellor added that his administration had prioritised due process, institutional autonomy and integrity in managing the university’s affairs.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at the institution, Dr Adefemi Afolabi, represented by his vice-chairman, Dr Tayo Ajibade, commended Adebowale for his attention to staff welfare.
He also urged the incoming 14th Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peter Olapegba, to sustain the commitment to staff welfare as he prepares to assume office.
