Atlético Madrid moved provisionally to the top of the La Liga table on Saturday after securing a 2-0 victory over Levante in their Matchday 11 encounter.
Diego Simeone’s men took the lead in the 36th minute through Alejandro Grimaldo, who found the back of the net to give the visitors an advantage before the break.
Atlético doubled their lead in the 62nd minute when Giuliano Simeone scored the second goal to put the visitors in a comfortable position.
The victory took Atlético’s points tally to 28 from 11 matches, moving them above Barcelona, who have 27 points and are yet to play their Matchday 11 fixture.
Barcelona will have an opportunity to reclaim the top position when they face Deportivo Alavés later on Saturday.
A victory would take the Catalan side above Atlético.
Meanwhile, Levante remain 16th on the table with 10 points after 11 matches, having suffered another setback in their campaign.
Atlético will hope to maintain their momentum as they continue their pursuit of the Spanish league title.
