Former England international, Kyle Walker, has questioned whether Real Madrid defender Trent Alexander-Arnold could return to Liverpool, suggesting that Manchester United or Manchester City could be alternative destinations if he leaves the Spanish club.
Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid in 2025 after ending his long association with Liverpool, where he established himself as one of the leading right-backs in world football.
His move to Spain came ahead of the 2025/26 season, with the Premier League club receiving a reported £10m transfer fee after Madrid sought to have him available for the FIFA Club World Cup.
However, the 28-year-old has endured a difficult spell in Spain, with injuries affecting his progress and limiting his opportunities in the team.
His reduced playing time has fuelled speculation about a possible return to English football, with former Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso reportedly open to reuniting with him at Chelsea.
Walker, who competed with Alexander-Arnold for a place in England’s right-back position before retiring from international football, believes a return to Liverpool could prove complicated because of the circumstances surrounding his departure.
“Can he go back to Liverpool with the way that he left? I’m not too sure.
“Do I see him at another club? He’s got to go to one of the big ones: Manchester United, Man City.”
Alexander-Arnold’s future remains a subject of speculation as questions persist over his role at Real Madrid.
A move back to the Premier League could offer him another opportunity to establish himself, although a return to Liverpool may present its own challenges.
