Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed former Big Brother Naija housemate Munirat Antoinette Lecky, popularly known as Anto Lecky, as Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Creative Economy.
Lecky announced her appointment in a post on Instagram, expressing gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve Edo State and Nigeria in her new capacity.
She described the appointment as another opportunity to contribute to the development of her state and country.
“I thank His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Executive Governor of Edo State, for the opportunity to serve him, my state and my country again in another capacity to serve as his Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Creative Economy,” she said.
In her new role, Lecky is expected to contribute to efforts to promote Edo State’s cultural heritage, attract visitors and strengthen the state’s tourism and creative industries.
She expressed optimism about the state’s potential to become a leading destination for tourism and entertainment, citing the return of several Benin Bronzes, plans to open museums and the growth of the entertainment industry.
“With the return of many stolen Benin Bronze, soon-to-be opened museums, and an ever growing entertainment industry, there is no better time for Edo State to be on the forefront of tourism and the creative economy in Nigeria and the world,” she said.
Lecky also highlighted the state’s readiness to welcome tourists and investors, stressing the importance of collaboration with stakeholders to unlock opportunities in the sector.
“Edo State’s borders and its economy are open to all, travelers and investors, domestic and international. I look forward to working with all stakeholders,” she added.
The former reality television star also used her official appointment portraits to showcase her Edo heritage, wearing Gbogane fabric associated with her Etsako community in Edo North, alongside red coral beads.
Explaining the cultural significance of her attire, she said the outfit reflected her identity and the traditions of her people.
“As a proud Edo babe, in my official portraits, I am wearing the Gbogane fabric of my Etsako tribe located in Edo North and red coral beads which signify royalty, power, dominance, and protection,” she said.
Lecky’s appointment comes amid efforts to harness Edo State’s cultural assets, historical landmarks and growing creative sector to expand tourism and attract investment.
The state, particularly Benin City, is known for its rich history, traditional institutions, artistic heritage and the globally recognised Benin Bronzes, which have remained central to discussions about cultural restitution and heritage preservation.
The appointment is expected to place Lecky in a position to support initiatives aimed at promoting the state’s cultural identity and creating greater visibility for its tourism and creative economy sectors.
