Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, believes Fulham can turn their first Premier League victory of the season into a positive run of results after scoring the decisive goal in their 1-0 win over Hull City.
The Nigerian international’s strike secured all three points for the London club, ending a six-game winless run and providing a timely boost to their campaign.
Speaking after the match, Iwobi expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, insisting that Fulham had shown enough quality in previous games despite their disappointing results.
“The win was a long time coming. We have performed well even though the results spoke otherwise,” the Super Eagles star said.
Iwobi also revealed that manager had encouraged the players to remain determined despite their struggles, adding that the victory could provide the momentum needed to improve their performances in subsequent matches.
‘The manager has asked us to keep going and hopefully the luck will go our way and it has now started, we just have to kick on and we just have to use this momentum for the rest of the season.
The former Arsenal and Everton midfielder admitted that Fulham could have scored more goals against Hull City but maintained that creating scoring opportunities remained an encouraging sign.
“It was a convincing performance even though the criticism even for me is that we could have scored more goals.
“As long as we’re creating the opportunities, we will score more goals.
Iwobi further stressed the importance of maintaining defensive discipline, pointing out that keeping clean sheets would increase the team’s chances of securing victories.
“Also, if we’re able to keep clean sheets like vs Hull City, it will give us a chance to win games.”
The Nigerian midfielder also acknowledged that Hull City’s goalkeeper might have done better to prevent his match-winning effort. However, he was pleased to see his shot find the back of the net.
Iwobi said the Hull City goalkeeper could have done much better to stop his goal, “but as long as they keep going in, I will celebrate them”.
The victory represents an important step for Fulham as they seek to build consistency in the Premier League, with Iwobi hopeful that the result will mark the beginning of an improved spell for the team.
