Makinde urges Oyo voters to reject aspirants without clear manifestos

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has urged residents to reject political aspirants who fail to present clear, realistic and people-oriented programmes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Makinde made the call on Sunday while speaking with journalists after a wreath-laying ceremony and memorial service for his late mother, Abigail Omojolagbe Makinde, at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan.

The governor urged residents to carefully examine the promises and manifestos of political aspirants and their parties before deciding who to support in the forthcoming elections.

He said voters needed to be discerning and assess candidates based on the feasibility of their proposals and their commitment to the development of the state.

The memorial service marked six years since the death of the governor’s mother, who passed away on October 15, 2020.

Reflecting on their relationship, Makinde described the annual remembrance as an opportunity to reflect on her values, teachings and the bond they shared, including occasional disagreements that were eventually resolved.

In his sermon, the Provost of the cathedral, Very Rev. Samuel Olawoyin, based his message on Deuteronomy 5:16 and commended the governor for continuing to honour his late parents despite the demands of public office.

Olawoyin urged members of the congregation to emulate Makinde’s commitment to honouring his parents.

The cleric also commended the governor’s administration for its developmental projects across the state’s geopolitical zones and efforts towards improving the welfare of workers and pensioners.

He encouraged Makinde to remain focused on his responsibilities and continue his developmental efforts, while trusting in God amid public commendations and criticisms.

Prayers were offered for the repose of the souls of the governor’s late parents, as well as for Makinde, his siblings, family and the peace and progress of Oyo State.

Among the dignitaries who accompanied the governor were the Commissioner for Lands, Akin Funmilayo Williams; Commissioner for Energy, Dahud Shangodoyin; and the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, Bimbo Adekanmbi.
