AC Milan maintained their unbeaten start to the Serie A season after playing out a 1-1 draw with Sassuolo at the MAPEI Stadium on Sunday.
The visitors took the lead through Adrien Rabiot in the 63rd minute, but Cas Odenthal equalised five minutes later to earn Sassuolo a share of the points.
The encounter began at a slow pace, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances.
Darryl Bakola fired over from distance early on, while Sassuolo’s Vasilije Adzic and Armand Lauriente also failed to find the target.
Milan increased the pressure towards the end of the first half, which was extended by nine minutes of stoppage time.
Diego Moreira forced goalkeeper Arijanet Muric into a save with a volley, before the shot-stopper denied Strahinja Pavlovic’s header from close range.
The visitors eventually broke the deadlock after half-time substitute Luka Modric helped create the opening goal.
The Croatian midfielder combined with his teammates before setting up Rabiot, who fired into the net from a tight angle to put Milan ahead.
Sassuolo responded quickly, with Odenthal finding the equaliser in the 68th minute.
The defender poked the ball through a crowded penalty area following a corner kick, leaving Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan unable to prevent the goal.
Maignan later produced a double save to deny Kieron Bowie and Kristian Thorstvedt as the hosts pushed for a winner.
Sassuolo thought they had snatched all three points in the 88th minute when Thorstvedt scored from close range, but the goal was ruled out after the referee had already stopped play following a challenge involving Bowie and Goncalo Ramos.
The result leaves Milan unbeaten after six league matches, with 12 points keeping them among the teams competing near the top of the table.
However, they have now drawn three of their last four Serie A fixtures.
