The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three men over the alleged murder and robbery of a family at Oloba Village in Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all residents of Oloba Village.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on September 22, 2026, at about 7pm, while the suspects were arrested following credible intelligence received by the command on October 2.
The police said the suspects allegedly invaded the residence of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children, armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.
The family was reportedly robbed of N200,000 cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.
The statement said, “In the course of the attack, Hammed Akinbami shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward inflicted injuries on the wife by hitting her on the head.”
The command further alleged that two of the children were tied by their hands and legs and thrown into a nearby river, while the other members of the family were killed and their bodies also dumped in the river.
Following the attack, detectives visited the scene and recovered several exhibits, including the family’s Boxer motorcycle, a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.
The police said the three suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime during interrogation.
“The remains of the wife have since been recovered, while concerted efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the four other victims, all members of the same family, who were dumped in the river,” the statement added.
The suspects and the case file are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed that the investigation be conducted thoroughly to ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The statement was signed by the command’s PPRO, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on October 6, 2026.
