Sweden striker, Viktor Gyökeres reached 25 international goals as his side secured a 1-0 victory over Romania in Bucharest on Monday to remain top of Group B4 in the UEFA Nations League.
Gyökeres scored the only goal of the encounter after 12 minutes, reacting quickest after Sebastian Nanasi’s effort struck the post before tapping the rebound into an empty net from close range.
The goal extended the Arsenal forward’s scoring run in the Nations League to seven consecutive matches and gave Sweden a strong start to the contest.
Romania improved after the interval and created opportunities in search of an equaliser, but Sweden goalkeeper Viktor Johansson stood firm to preserve his side’s advantage.
Johansson denied Nicolae Stanciu with a long-range effort before producing another save to keep out Florin Tanase’s shot from 12 yards.
Sweden remained composed during the closing stages and held on for another victory, taking their tally to 10 points from their last two weeks of Nations League action.
The result leaves Sweden needing just one point from their remaining two matches to secure a top-two finish in Group B4, while Romania remain without a point and face the prospect of a relegation playoff.
