Nations League: Greece, Germany play goalless draw

Greece held Germany to a goalless draw on Sunday at Toumba Stadium to remain unbeaten in their Nations League group and secure their place among the top two teams.

The result kept Greece level on eight points with the Netherlands at the top of the table, while Germany moved to five points and Serbia remained without a point.

Greece also mathematically avoided relegation and, with two matches remaining, need just one victory to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.

Coach Ivan Jovanovic made four changes to the side that drew 1-1 with the Netherlands three days earlier, retaining the 4-4-2 formation.

Giorgos Masouras missed an early opportunity in the second minute before Germany took control of the opening half.

Greece goalkeeper Konstantis Tzolakis was called into action several times as the visitors applied pressure.

Germany thought it had taken the lead in the 32nd minute through Jonathan Burkardt, but the goal was disallowed for handball at the beginning of the move.

Jovanovic changed to a 4-2-3-1 formation after the break, bringing on Thanassis Androutsos to help contain Aleksandar Pavlovic and give Greece greater control of the midfield.

Germany increased the pressure during the final 10 minutes, but Greece held firm to preserve the clean sheet and claim a valuable point.

The draw also means Greece cannot finish below third place and will be seeded in its Euro 2028 qualifying group.

Greece will travel to face the Netherlands on November 13 before hosting Serbia in their final group match.
