The Zamfara State Government has commenced the construction of a 95-kilometre road linking several communities in Tsafe Local Government Area, with the project expected to improve agricultural transportation and strengthen security operations.
Governor Dauda Lawal flagged off the Yandoton Daji–Cediya–Doka–Yan Waren Daji–Hayin Alhaji Bedi–Unguwar Joji–Yan Kuzo–Tsafe Road in Tsafe town on Sunday.
The project, which includes five bridges, is being handled by Sky Construction Company and Setraco Construction Company Limited and is expected to be completed within 12 months.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lawal said the road would connect farming communities to major roads and make it easier for farmers to transport their produce to markets.
He said, “Our administration is big on ensuring that farmers get their produce to the end users. When the road connecting the farm is good, it reduces stress and also ensures more mechanised farming because the heavy-duty equipment we have procured can easily reach the farm.”
The governor also linked the project to the state’s efforts to tackle insecurity, saying improved road access would enable security agencies to operate more effectively.
He said, “The reconstruction of this road will not only facilitate the movement of goods and services, but also enhance the mobility and operational capacity of our security agencies.”
According to him, better roads would improve surveillance, intelligence gathering and the ability of security personnel to respond to threats in communities along the route.
Lawal described the project as part of a wider infrastructure renewal programme aimed at reconnecting communities and improving economic activities across the state.
He said similar road projects were ongoing or planned in other parts of Zamfara, including the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau, Zurmi–Rukudawa and Mallamawa–Bukkuyum corridors.
The state Commissioner for Works, Lawal Bungundu, said the road would provide better access to farmlands and facilitate the movement of agricultural produce.
Bungundu said, “The construction of this road in Tsafe LGA will ensure the commuting of farm produce, as it connects many farmlands, and it will affect the economic activities of the state.”
He added that improved road infrastructure would support agricultural production and complement the government’s investment in critical infrastructure.
The governor further announced plans to construct additional inner roads across other local government areas, saying the administration would continue working to improve living conditions and deliver development to residents.
