Afrobeats stars Tiwa Savage and Teniola Apata, popularly known as Teni, have sparked a playful boxing challenge on social media, with Tiwa accepting Teni’s proposed fight.
Teni issued the challenge in a viral video on Friday, October 2, while discussing the huge earnings of Nigerian entertainers and the expensive cars owned by some music stars.
The “Fargin” singer jokingly suggested that she and Tiwa should settle the challenge in the boxing ring, proposing a purse of N1.5bn.
“Let’s fight, Tiwa Savage and me. Mummy, I will beat you till you enter bush,” Teni said.
She added, “If they pay us N1.5 billion, can I buy a Bugatti? Make we first start from there. Mama, make we fight. Tiwa, I beat you, then sing ‘My Darling’ for you.”
Tiwa, who is known for hits including “Somebody’s Son,” responded briefly to the challenge in the comment section of Teni’s post.
“Pick a date,” she wrote.
The response quickly fuelled reactions among fans, although there has been no announcement of an official promoter, venue, contract or date for the proposed bout.
The exchange comes days after another celebrity boxing contest attracted attention in Nigeria.
Big Brother Naija winner Phyna defeated actress Nkechi Blessing in a knockout at an event in Lagos on October 1.
The bout was organised under Balmoral Group Promotions’ “Chaos in the Ring” series, which has featured several Nigerian entertainers, including Portable, Charles Okocha, Speed Darlington and Carter Efe.
Carter Efe previously defeated Portable by unanimous decision, while Portable had earlier recorded victories over Okocha and Speed Darlington.
For now, Teni and Tiwa’s proposed fight appears to remain a light-hearted social media exchange rather than a confirmed professional boxing event.
