Afrobeats sensation, Tiwa Savage, has revealed that she has abstained from sex for the past three years, linking her choice to personal healing and her need for deep emotional connection.
The award-winning singer made the disclosure during an interview on The Breakfast Club in the United States while promoting her latest album, This One Is Personal.
“I’ve gone like maybe three years without. I don’t know, it’s not something I’m really crazy about. I don’t have any toys too, none of that,” Savage said.
She explained that physical intimacy for her only happens when there is love involved. “I really do have to be in love to think about it,” she noted.
Speaking further, the singer admitted that past relationship experiences had left scars she is still working through. “I know that place was dark. I’m scared that someone’s going to come, maybe even the right person, and I’m just going to project my trauma on them,” she said.
Savage stressed that her hesitation stems from how deeply she invests in relationships. “That’s because I’m going to give everything. I honestly will give everything. Can I really do that again? Unless God opens up the heavens and says, ‘This is my child, this is who you’re supposed to be with,’ I can’t see myself opening up like that again.”
The Somebody’s Son crooner also disclosed that therapy plays a role in her healing journey. “If I feel like, okay, I need to just talk to someone about something, yeah, then I still do. I think we don’t talk about it a lot in my culture,” she said.
When asked if she still believed in romantic love, Tiwa was hesitant. “I love my son, I love my team, I love my friends. I’ve been married before. I’m not young. I’m good,” she concluded.
