Uganda moved to the top of Group H in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after defeating Libya 1-0 at the Hoima City Stadium on Tuesday.
Arnold Vula scored the only goal of the encounter in first-half stoppage time, striking in the 47th minute to give the Cranes their first victory of the qualifying campaign.
The hosts defended their narrow advantage after the restart as Libya struggled to find a way back into the game.
The victory puts Uganda at the summit of the group, although the East Africans already have an automatic place at the 2027 AFCON as one of the three co-hosts alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
Only one additional qualification spot is available in Group H, meaning Tunisia, Libya and Botswana are competing for the remaining ticket to the finals.
Libya remain without a win after two matches.
The Mediterranean Knights began their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Botswana before suffering Tuesday’s defeat to Uganda.
Tunisia and Botswana had also shared a 2-2 draw, leaving both sides with two points after two matches.
Uganda’s victory therefore gives them an early advantage at the top, while the other three teams will continue their battle for the group’s remaining AFCON qualification place.
