AFCON Qualifiers: Tunisia extend winless run after Botswana draw

Tunisia’s poor run continued on Monday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Botswana in their Africa Cup of Nations Group H qualifier in Rades, extending their winless streak to eight matches.

The result was Tunisia’s second consecutive draw in the qualifiers after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Uganda at home on Thursday.

Botswana took the lead in the 37th minute when Thatayaone Kgamanyane found the net, but Tunisia responded through Hazem Mastouri, who scored twice on either side of half-time to put the hosts ahead.

However, Botswana restored parity in the 60th minute through Lebogang Ditsele, leaving Tunisia to settle for another draw in front of a sparse home crowd.

The result leaves Botswana and Tunisia level on two points from two matches at the top of Group H, while Libya and Uganda have one point each.

Libya will face Uganda in Hoima on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, DR Congo maintained their perfect start in Group E with a 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe in Harare.

Yoane Wissa opened the scoring before setting up Samuel Moutoussamy for the second goal just before half-time, while Marshall Munetsi pulled one back late for Zimbabwe.

Equatorial Guinea defeated Sierra Leone 1-0 in Yaounde, with Spanish-born forward Loren Zuniga scoring inside the opening minute.

DR Congo lead Group E with six points, followed by Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea on three points each, while Sierra Leone remain without a point.

In Group F, Burkina Faso moved top after edging Central African Republic 1-0 in Casablanca, with RB Salzburg teenager Aboubacar Camara scoring the only goal in the 60th minute.

The top two teams in each qualifying group will secure places at the 24-team AFCON finals, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17 next year.
