The Democratic Republic of the Congo defeated Zimbabwe 2-1 in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Monday.
The Leopards made a strong start and dominated proceedings early on, creating several opportunities as they searched for the opening goal.
Their pressure paid off in the 30th minute when Yoane Wissa capitalised on a poor clearance from the Zimbabwe goalkeeper to put DR Congo ahead.
The visitors continued to control the game and doubled their advantage in first-half stoppage time.
Wissa turned provider as Samuel Moutoussamy finished the move to give DR Congo a 2-0 lead at the break.
Zimbabwe improved after the restart and pushed forward in search of a way back into the game, but DR Congo’s defence held firm for much of the second half.
The hosts eventually reduced the deficit in the third minute of added time when Munetsi scored to make it 2-1.
However, Zimbabwe could not find an equaliser before the final whistle as DR Congo held on for an away victory.
The result leaves DR Congo top of Group E after two rounds of matches in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
