The Super Eagles have arrived in Bissau ahead of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea-Bissau, following their opening-day victory over Madagascar in Uyo.
Nigeria began their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback win after Ehsan Kari put Madagascar ahead in the 16th minute.
Debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scored in either half to secure all three points for Eric Chelle’s side.
The Eagles were made to work hard for the victory as Madagascar adopted a deep defensive approach.
Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali also produced an important second-half save to keep out Rayan Raveloson before Usor eventually completed Nigeria’s comeback.
The Nigerian team held a closed training session at 10am on Sunday before leaving for the airport at 2pm for their scheduled 3pm flight to Bissau.
Guinea-Bissau also opened their Group L campaign with a victory, defeating co-hosts Tanzania 2-0 to move to the top of the standings on goal difference.
Both teams will be aiming for another win on Tuesday as they look to strengthen their position in the group.
Tanzania will host Madagascar in the other Group L fixture on the same day.
Only one team will gain automatic qualification from the group, with co-hosts Tanzania already guaranteed a place at the 2027 tournament.
Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau previously faced each other during the qualifiers for the 2023 AFCON, with both sides securing away victories.
The Djurtus won 1-0 in Abuja before the Eagles responded with a 1-0 victory in Bissau.
Chelle is expected to oversee another training session in Bissau on Monday as the Eagles make final preparations for Tuesday’s encounter at the Estádio 24 de Setembro. The match will kick off at 5pm Nigerian time.
