AFCON Qualifier: DR Congo beat Equatorial Guinea 2-0

The Democratic Republic of Congo opened their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea on Thursday.

Chancel Mbemba put the hosts ahead before Yoane Wissa doubled the advantage, as the Leopards claimed all three points in their opening Group qualifier.

Mbemba broke the deadlock to give DR Congo the lead, with Wissa later finding the net to strengthen their position and put the hosts in control of the encounter.

Equatorial Guinea struggled to create a response as DR Congo remained organised and held on to their two-goal advantage until the final whistle.

Equatorial Guinea, meanwhile, will have to regroup ahead of their remaining qualifying matches after suffering defeat in their opening fixture.
