Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, says he will convene a State Security Council meeting following intelligence reports of planned terrorist attacks on worship centres and other public places in the state.
Adeleke also urged residents to promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities in their communities to the police and other security agencies.
The governor’s reaction followed a meeting between the Department of State Services and leaders of the Osun Muslim Community and the Christian Association of Nigeria, where security concerns over alleged plans to attack parts of the South-West were discussed.
The reported plot is said to be aimed at creating fear and disrupting public participation in the 2027 general elections
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke called for increased vigilance, particularly in border communities where unusual movements may be observed.
He said, “We must provide the police and other security agencies with intelligence reports on noticeable threats in our communities. As we are aware of alleged plots to attack our places of worship, we must become extra vigilant.”
The governor commended the DSS for what he described as proactive steps to address the reported security threat and urged other security agencies to strengthen their preparedness.
Adeleke said, “I will soon convene the State Security Council meeting to assess the situation and the workability of our response plans.”
He further advised residents to exercise caution when accommodating unfamiliar persons and urged traditional rulers to discuss the development during their council meetings.
The governor stressed that his administration remained committed to maintaining peace in the state, particularly ahead of the 2027 elections.
He added, “We must nip in the bud the evil plans of enemies of public peace. Our administration is committed to post-election peace-building, and we must tighten state security to foil any attempt by terrorists and bandits to disrupt public peace.”
