Parma and Monza played out a 1-1 draw in Serie A on Sunday, with both sides earning their first point of the season after a closely contested encounter at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.
Monza took the lead in the 38th minute when Jay Robinson produced a powerful strike from the edge of the box that flew into the far bottom corner beyond Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi.
The visitors had opportunities to extend their advantage, with Andrea Colpani coming close after his effort took a deflection and struck the crossbar before being kept out by Corvi’s fingertips.
Parma eventually found a way back into the match in the 60th minute through teenage forward Simone Lontani.
The former Milan academy player collected the ball inside the area and calmly guided his shot through a crowded defence and into the far corner.
It was Lontani’s first Serie A goal, having already scored twice in the Coppa Italia this season.
Both teams continued to search for a winner in the closing stages, but Corvi made an important save to deny Colpani’s header, while Monza also threatened through El Bilal Touré and Samuele Birindelli.
Neither side could find the decisive goal, as the points were shared and Parma and Monza finally opened their Serie A accounts for the campaign.
