Serie A: Torino beat Fiorentina 2-1 in comeback win

Torino came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina on Saturday, piling more pressure on the struggling hosts and earning their first Serie A points of the season.

Fiorentina went into the game looking to recover from a disastrous opening to the campaign after suffering heavy defeats against Roma and Frosinone.

Torino, meanwhile, had also lost their opening two league matches before being eliminated from the Coppa Italia by Monza.

The hosts started brightly and nearly took the lead inside two minutes. Lucas Perri denied Franco Mastantuono in a one-on-one situation before Pietro Comuzzo’s follow-up was cleared off the line.

Torino gradually settled into the contest and created several opportunities, with former Fiorentina midfielder Rolando Mandragora forcing David de Gea into a fingertip save with a low effort from outside the box.

Fiorentina eventually broke the deadlock three minutes after half-time when Mateo Pellegrino unleashed a long-range effort that Perri failed to hold, allowing the ball to slip underneath his gloves.

Torino responded strongly and levelled in the 74th minute through Mandragora.

The midfielder, who had only recently left Fiorentina, produced a powerful left-footed strike from distance that beat De Gea. He immediately apologised to the home supporters after celebrating against his former club.
Torino completed the turnaround eight minutes later.

Che Adams reacted quickest inside the box following Rafik Belghali’s cross, finishing from close range to put the visitors ahead for the first time.

Fiorentina struggled to produce a meaningful response in the closing stages and were jeered by their supporters at the final whistle.

The defeat leaves the Viola facing another difficult period, while Torino can finally celebrate their first league win of the campaign.
