Galatasaray manager, Okan Buruk, has provided an update on Victor Osimhen after the Super Eagles striker was forced off during Friday’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish Super Lig.
Osimhen opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a stunning effort from outside the penalty area that struck the underside of the crossbar before finding the net.
The goal took his tally to six for the season and extended his remarkable scoring run, having found the net in every Galatasaray game so far this campaign.
However, the Nigerian forward forward was unable to complete the match after appearing to suffer a muscle problem.
He was replaced by Baris Alper Yilmaz in the 33rd minute.
Despite losing Osimhen early, Galatasaray secured all three points in dramatic fashion, with Gabriel Sara scoring a stoppage-time winner from a free-kick to preserve their unbeaten start to the campaign and send them to the top of the league table.
Speaking after the match, Buruk revealed that Osimhen and midfielder Mario Lemina will undergo MRI scans to determine the extent of their respective injuries.
“Lemina had groin pain during yesterday’s training. Osimhen also felt something today. We need to see their MRIs.
“Hopefully it’s nothing serious, and we can get them ready for the next European match, God willing,” the coach said.
There was some encouragement for Galatasaray, as Osimhen was able to walk off the pitch without assistance.
He was also spotted moving around and smiling after the final whistle.
The injury comes at an unfortunate time for the Turkish champions, who are set to begin their Champions League campaign against Sporting CP on Wednesday.
Galatasaray will now wait for the results of Osimhen’s MRI before determining whether he will be fit enough to feature in the crucial European fixture.
