Davide Frattesi continued his impressive start to life at Lazio, scoring the only goal as the Biancocelesti secured a 1-0 victory over Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
Frattesi, who also scored in Lazio’s opening league win over Bologna, struck in the 25th minute to settle a closely contested Matchday 2 encounter.
Nuno Tavares created the opening with a strong run down the left before cutting the ball back into the area, where Frattesi was perfectly positioned to fire home from close range.
Lazio were forced into an early change when Nicolò Rovella suffered a calf problem and was replaced by Reda Belahyane, adding to Gennaro Gattuso’s growing injury concerns.
The hosts came close to extending their lead when Frattesi turned provider for Tavares, whose header crashed against the far post.
Genoa threatened on several occasions but struggled to find the finishing touch.
Danilho Doekhi produced an important block to deny Vitinha, while another opportunity went begging when a cross from Brooke Norton-Cuffy found no Genoa player at the back post.
Lazio also missed chances to put the game beyond doubt, with Mattia Zaccagni shooting just over and Doekhi heading over from close range for Genoa.
Genoa introduced Franz-Ethan Meichtry after the break, and he almost made an immediate impact, but fired wide after creating space inside the box.
New Lazio signing Andrea Pinamonti came on late for his debut and nearly marked the occasion with a goal, turning sharply before seeing his effort narrowly miss the post.
Genoa pushed for an equaliser in stoppage time, but Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas made a crucial save to tip Morten Frendrup’s header over the crossbar.
The result gives Lazio their second consecutive Serie A victory, while Frattesi has now scored in both of the club’s league wins this season.
