Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, elder brother of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has attributed his family’s victory in the state governorship election to prayers rather than financial strength.
Deji Adeleke made the claim while speaking at a celebration held in honour of his brother following his victory in the election on Sunday.
According to him, the Adeleke family did not defeat the immediate past governor, Gboyega Oyetola, because they had more money or spent more during the campaign.
“The only reason why we defeated Oyetola is not because we are bigger, or we spend more money than him”
He alleged that the opposition spent about N60bn during the election, with voters reportedly offered as much as N50,000 in some areas.
“On election, they did not spend any money. (0:20) They spent 60 billion as we heard. Some places they bought votes for as high as 50,000 Naira for one single vote.”
Adeleke said that after hearing reports about the alleged spending on election day, he withdrew to his room to pray that voters would accept the money offered to them but still vote for Ademola Adeleke.
“On the day of the election, when I heard the kind of money they were spending, I went back to my little corner in my room and I knelt down and I prayed to God. I said, God Almighty, please let people collect their money, but let them still vote for Ademola Adeleke.”
He further disclosed that he had maintained a regular prayer routine ahead of the election, including reading passages from the Bible, particularly Isaiah chapter 41.
He described the prayers as an important part of his spiritual preparation and said he believed divine intervention ultimately played a major role in the outcome of the election.
