The wife of the Osun State Governor, Ngozi Adeleke, has called on eligible voters across the state to participate in the ongoing governorship election, assuring them that the exercise is peaceful.
Ngozi made the appeal on Saturday after casting her vote at her polling unit, where she said there was no sign of intimidation or violence.
She encouraged residents who were yet to vote to leave their homes and proceed to their designated polling units, describing voting as a civic responsibility.
“As you can see, there’s no intimidation of any kind,” she said.
The governor’s wife also appealed to Osun indigenes to participate actively in the electoral process, stressing that voting was proceeding peacefully at her polling location.
“I’m saying it authoritatively to every Osun indigene that there’s peace, everything is going on peacefully. There’s no rancour, there’s no fight. There’s no intimidation of any kind,” she said.
She added, “Please, wherever you are, as long as you’re an electorate, please leave your house. Go to your polling unit and vote. That’s your civic right.”
Her appeal came as voters continued to turn out at polling units across the state to elect the next governor.
Earlier, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform, voted at Ward 02, Polling Unit 009, Abogunde Compound, in Ede North Local Government Area.
The election is taking place across all 30 local government areas of Osun State, with Adeleke and other candidates seeking the support of the electorate.
Security concerns and allegations of intimidation had dominated discussions ahead of the poll, prompting political stakeholders and civil society organisations to call for a peaceful election.
Voting commenced on Saturday amid the deployment of security personnel to polling locations and other parts of the state.
