NYSC makes NERD clearance compulsory for corps members’ mobilisation

The National Youth Service Corps has announced that prospective corps members must obtain clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database before they can be mobilised for national service.

The scheme said the new requirement is mandatory for all prospective corps members and urged eligible graduates to complete the clearance process early to avoid delays in mobilisation.

In a notice shared on its official X handle on Monday, the NYSC stressed that candidates without NERD clearance would not be mobilised for service.

“This is to inform Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.

Reinforcing the directive, the agency added, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC.”

Although the corps did not provide further details on the clearance procedure, the directive signals tighter verification measures ahead of the next orientation exercise.

The announcement comes shortly after the NYSC began mobilisation activities for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, urging tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all documentation required for mobilisation.

The latest directive also follows a recent safety advisory issued by the scheme, warning prospective corps members against travelling at night while heading to orientation camps.

The NYSC advised candidates to suspend their journeys where necessary and spend the night in secure locations or approved military and security formations instead of travelling after dark.

The scheme said the measures are aimed at strengthening the credibility of the mobilisation process while improving the safety of prospective corps members amid security concerns on major highways.

With mobilisation preparations underway, eligible graduates are expected to complete all registration and verification requirements, including the mandatory NERD clearance, before reporting to orientation camps.
