The Ondo State Police Command has detained four officers seen in a viral video allegedly extorting a motorist on the Ijebu-Ode–Ore–Benin Expressway.
The Punch reported that the command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, identifying the officers as: “AP/No. 207454, ASP Elomore Sodayo; AP/No. 332012, Inspector Adefila Adewale; AP/No. 332449, Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi; and AP/No. 332369, Inspector Odusola Peter.”
Addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Akure on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to discipline, stressing that acts of misconduct and unprofessional behaviour would not be tolerated.
He said a full-scale investigation had been launched to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the degree of responsibility of each officer involved.
Ohagwu maintained that the Nigeria Police Force remained committed to professionalism and discipline, noting that any conduct capable of eroding public trust would not be accepted.
He further stated that all officers were expected to discharge their duties professionally, uphold the dignity of citizens and strictly adhere to the Force’s Code of Conduct and Standard Operating Procedures.
“The Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined and professional institution that does not condone any form of misconduct, incivility, or actions capable of undermining public confidence, promoting ethnic division, or bringing the Force into disrepute,” the commissioner said.
He assured members of the public that the ongoing investigation would establish the facts of the case, adding that any officer found guilty would face the appropriate disciplinary measures.
