The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Mohammed Dan-Azumi, over the alleged theft of a 2016 Toyota Corolla Sport valued at about ₦18 million.
The vehicle was reportedly recovered in Kano State following an intelligence-driven operation by operatives of the State Intelligence Department of the police command.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to Nguroje, the incident began after the owner of the vehicle reported that he had handed the car to Dan-Azumi for washing, but the suspect allegedly drove away with it and could not be reached.
“The breakthrough followed a report lodged by the owner of the vehicle, who stated that he had entrusted his vehicle to Mohammed Dan-Azumi, 26, of Girei Local Government Area, for washing. The suspect allegedly absconded with the vehicle to an unknown destination,” the statement said.
Following the complaint, police operatives in Yola commenced an intelligence-led investigation that eventually led them to Kano, where the suspect was reportedly apprehended.
The stolen vehicle was also recovered during the operation.
The police said the investigation was still ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of the process.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabiru Hassan, praised the officers involved in the investigation, commending them for their professionalism and commitment.
He reiterated the command’s determination to tackle criminal activities across the state and urged residents to provide the police with credible and timely information that could assist in preventing and solving crimes.
Further findings revealed that Dan-Azumi works as a cleaner at Girei Cottage Hospital, where the vehicle owner, a medical doctor serving under the National Youth Service Corps, is also posted.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue into the alleged theft.
