Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has advised the former governor to reject his appointment as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency.
Isaac made the call in a video shared on his Instagram page on Monday, following the announcement of Ayo Fayose’s appointment by the Federal Government.
The former governor was among 26 individuals recently appointed to lead the boards of 10 federal agencies and commissions.
According to the Presidency, Fayose will serve as chairman of the REA board alongside Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors. The agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors are also expected to continue in their positions.
Reacting to the appointment, Isaac questioned why his brother was given a board chairmanship rather than what he described as a more senior political position.
He said, “They said they gave my brother a DG, DG, not a minister, not ambassador.”
Isaac also compared the appointment with the positions given to other political figures, including former presidential aide Reno Omokri.
He said, “Even Reno Omokri sef, they gave him ambassador. They couldn’t give my brother ambassador. So why just chairman of a parastatal?”
The younger Fayose further suggested that the appointment may have been influenced by the recent visit of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to his residence.
According to him, “They gave my brother DG because Obi came on Saturday to visit me. So they said, no, we must enter that family.”
Isaac had earlier described Obi as Nigeria’s “incoming president” following the visit, although he had previously threatened to withdraw his support for the former Anambra State governor.
He also recalled that Ayo Fayose had previously expressed his intention to remain in private business after leaving public office.
Quoting his brother, Isaac said, “When I’m leaving this government house, whenever I leave this government house, I will not be a minister, I will not be DG, I will not be senator, I will not be anything. I will face my business.”
He added that the former governor had been financially successful before entering politics and had continued to do well in his private ventures.
Describing the REA appointment as a possible “Greek gift,” Isaac questioned why the former governor was only being offered the position at this time.
He asked, “Why didn’t they give you appointment since? Why did they wait till Obi come?”
Despite his criticism, Isaac congratulated his brother and urged him to consider handing the position to his son instead.
He said, “Congrats on your appointment. You better give your son. Please, don’t use that kind of appointment. You are too big for that. Afobaje ni e.”
Isaac also expressed confidence in the opposition’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections, claiming that the opposition could secure a significant share of the votes if the election is free and fair.
He said, “I am ready to see it through. And I know what we have on ground in Nigeria today. Election, we have 62 per cent, total vote cast, free and fair, credible.”
He added, “I’m not scared. They are scared of what they don’t know.”
