EFCC debunks viral secret recruitment claim

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has dismissed claims circulating on social media that it is conducting a secret recruitment exercise, describing the information as false and misleading.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Monday, the anti-graft agency warned Nigerians against believing or sharing the viral claim, stressing that no clandestine recruitment was taking place.

The commission accompanied the post with a graphic bearing the inscription, “FAKE NEWS” and “THIS IS FALSE NEWS. BEWARE!”, to counter the widely circulated message.

The false post alleged that the EFCC was quietly recruiting new personnel and urged recipients to contact unnamed individuals for further information.

Rejecting the claim, the commission said, “This is false news. Beware,” urging members of the public to disregard the message entirely.

The EFCC noted that fraudsters frequently exploit fake recruitment announcements to deceive unsuspecting job seekers and extort money from them.

It reiterated that whenever vacancies are available, recruitment exercises are publicly announced through its verified communication channels and are never conducted in secret or through intermediaries.

The commission advised Nigerians to verify information relating to its activities through its official platforms before taking any action, warning that relying on unverified social media posts could expose them to fraud.
