Randy Peter, Mama Pee return to EFCC as Naira abuse probe continues

Activists Peter Akah, popularly known as Randy Peter or Peter for Nigeria, and Precious Oruche, widely known as Mama Pee, are expected to return to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday as investigations into allegations of Naira abuse continue.

Their lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the activists had earlier honoured the anti-graft agency’s invitation and were released after being questioned.

Effiong explained that the EFCC had invited both activists through separate letters dated June 24, requesting their appearance on July 6 to respond to allegations of Naira abuse. However, he said the meeting was rescheduled because his clients were unavailable on the initial date.

“We wrote to the Commission to reschedule the meeting to Wednesday, July 15, 2026, since our clients were not available on the originally scheduled date,” he said.

According to the lawyer, he accompanied the activists to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, where they were interrogated by investigators before being allowed to leave.

“After cooperating with the Commission, our clients were released and we departed the EFCC headquarters. We will be going back today in furtherance of the investigation,” Effiong stated.

He said the activists denied the allegation that they mishandled the Nigerian currency, explaining that the money seen in the material under investigation was not legal tender.

“Our clients clarified that what was referenced were props used for entertainment purposes and not genuine Naira notes,” he said.

Effiong added that despite spending several hours with investigators, both activists remained in good spirits and appreciated Nigerians who expressed concern over their welfare. He assured the public that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.

The activists’ prolonged stay at the EFCC office on Wednesday had sparked speculation online after claims emerged that they had been arrested.

Social media activist Esther Umoh had raised concerns when the duo was not released several hours after honouring the commission’s invitation.

Another associate, Justice Cracks, later confirmed that they regained their freedom around midnight after approximately 11 hours at the EFCC headquarters and were instructed to return the following day.
