Nigeria’s world record holder, Tobi Amusan, matched her season-best performance of 12.28 seconds to clinch victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris Diamond League on Sunday.
The 28-year-old produced a commanding display to finish ahead of Americans Grace Stark and Alaysha Johnson, who settled for second and third places in times of 12.38s and 12.39s respectively.
Amusan had to overcome an early challenge from Dutch athlete Nadine Visser, who briefly led the race, but the Nigerian accelerated strongly in the closing stages to surge past her rivals and cross the line comfortably in first place.
The winning time equalled Amusan’s fastest mark of the season, having previously recorded 12.28s at both the Xiamen and Rabat Diamond League meetings in May.
The triumph marked her second Diamond League win of the campaign after her success in Rabat, while also extending a strong run of form that includes victory at the New Taipei City Athletics Open earlier this month.
Amusan has enjoyed an impressive season so far, building on the momentum from her fourth straight African title and delivering consistent performances as she prepares for the Diamond League final and the Commonwealth Games later this year.
A three-time consecutive Diamond League champion from 2021 to 2023, the Nigerian hurdler is now firmly in contention to regain the title this season.
