The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 57-year-old farmer, Samuel Sunny Udoh, for allegedly killing two men in Odukpani Local Government Area of the state.
According to The Punch, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, who confirmed the incident, said the police received a missing person report on May 25 from Regina Akan Patrick, whose husband, Akan Patrick, had gone to his farm in Okong community and failed to return home.
According to the report, Akan was known to spend about a week on his farm before returning after completing his work. However, efforts by his family to reach him after his departure were unsuccessful, prompting them to alert the police.
Eitokpah said investigations into the disappearance led to the arrest of Udoh.
During questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed that in November 2025, Akan Patrick and another man identified as Imoh confronted him at his farm and demanded 14 bags of cannabis sativa he was cultivating.
He alleged that the two men arrived armed and attempted to intimidate him. Following the incident, he reported the matter to community leaders, who intervened but were unable to verify his claims.
The community leaders subsequently ordered the release of the two men after they had been tied up during the inquiry.
The suspect further stated that a confrontation later broke out while he was accompanying them, during which the men allegedly attempted to attack him. He claimed he pushed both of them into a river, where they drowned.
Udoh also admitted that he did not report the deaths to the police because he was involved in the illegal cultivation of cannabis sativa.
The police spokesperson said the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
