Afrobeats singer Davido and All Progressives Congress supporter and musician Dauda Kahutu Rarara have engaged in a public social media spat over an outfit worn by the singer during a FIFA World Cup-related event.
The controversy began after Rarara posted a video criticising Davido’s customised jacket, which the singer wore during the 2026 FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert.
In the video, Rarara alleged that the outfit projected Nigeria’s security challenges to a global audience and suggested that the move carried political undertones.
According to him, such a display could portray the country negatively and potentially undermine the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Rarara also questioned the appropriateness of Davido’s actions, arguing that similar conduct might attract sanctions in some countries.
His remarks sparked widespread debate online, with supporters of both entertainers expressing differing opinions across social media platforms.
Reacting to the criticism, Davido took to his X account, where he appeared to mock Rarara’s pronunciation of his name.
Rarara subsequently responded in Hausa, writing, “Kashiga taitayinka,” which translates to “Mind your own business.”
The exchange intensified when Davido replied in Hausa, saying, “Da ace kana da ilimi da na tsaya nayi magana dakai. Ama komai baka sani ba, sakarai kawai.”
The statement translates to: “If you were educated, I would have continued talking with you. But you know nothing; just keep quiet.”
The online clash has continued to generate reactions from Nigerians, with some applauding Davido’s response while others backed Rarara’s criticism of the singer’s outfit.
The latest disagreement adds to a string of public conversations involving Davido, who recently made headlines after expressing interest in investing in the Dangote Refinery project.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Davido nor Rarara had issued any further statement on the matter.
