World Cup: Amad excited with Ivory Coast win over Ecuador

Manchester United forward, Amad Diallo, has expressed his happiness after playing a decisive role in helping Côte d’Ivoire open their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a narrow win over Ecuador.

The Elephants began their Group E journey with a tense 1-0 triumph over the South American side at Philadelphia Stadium, in a match that saw both teams repeatedly denied by the woodwork, striking it four times combined in a highly competitive contest.

With the game seemingly drifting toward a goalless stalemate, Diallo came off the bench to make the difference, calmly guiding a precise effort into the bottom corner to seal victory and trigger jubilant celebrations among the Ivorian squad.
Amad Talks Up Important Win

Despite the victory, Amad stressed the importance of staying focused, insisting that Côte d’Ivoire must now turn their attention to their remaining two group-stage matches.

“We needed that. We came here to make history. We still have two more matches ahead of us, and we need to approach them with the same mentality and try to win them,” Amad was quoted by FIFA.com.

” We had to stay focused. We knew it was going to be a difficult match because we know the Ecuadorian players – they’re physically very strong. They caused us problems, of course, but we stayed composed and remained focused.”

Next Test For Elephants
Côte d’Ivoire currently sit second in Group E behind defending champions Germany national football team, who delivered a dominant 7-1 win over debutants Curaçao in their opening fixture.

The West African side will next face the European champions at Toronto Stadium on Saturday, June 20, in what is expected to be a crucial group-stage encounter.
