Troops destroy suspected bandits’ camp, rescue three in Zamfara

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that troops of Sector 2 under Operation Fansan Yamma have killed a terrorist, rescued three kidnapped persons, and destroyed a bandits’ hideout during ongoing operations in Zamfara State.

This was contained in an operational update released to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Abuja.

According to the report, the operation took place on June 12 across communities in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State as part of sustained efforts to curb banditry and other violent crimes.

It stated that troops on a fighting patrol around Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa made contact with armed terrorists in Yanbuki District of Zurmi LGA.

The soldiers engaged the attackers in a gun duel, during which one terrorist was neutralised while others escaped with injuries.

Items recovered at the scene included rifles, four loaded magazines, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser, and an inner vest.

The report added that the fleeing criminals were pursued as troops advanced towards Sabon Garin Daudawa, forcing them to abandon their camp upon sighting the military.

Following the withdrawal of the bandits, troops cleared and destroyed the hideout to prevent its reuse as a base for criminal activities.
