Arsenal are edging closer to agreeing a new long-term contract with manager Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, a deal that would place him among the very highest-paid coaches in world football and is expected to make him the Premier League’s top-earning head coach.
According to TEAMtalk, negotiations over the revised agreement have advanced significantly in recent weeks, with growing optimism from all parties that a final deal could be completed before the start of the new season.
The club’s ownership group, the Kroenkes, are fully backing the move.
Arsenal have been intent for some time on securing Arteta’s long-term future, viewing the contract extension as a reward for the major transformation he has overseen since taking charge in December 2019.
His current deal has just 12 months remaining and is valued at around £10 million per year, but the new terms are expected to roughly double that figure.
If finalised, the package would place Arteta close to the elite salary tier previously associated with former Pep Guardiola, whose contract at Manchester City was worth about £20 million annually. That translates to roughly £384,000 per week.
Guardiola is still regarded as the Premier League’s highest earner until his exit from City becomes official on July 1, after which Arteta is expected to move to the top of the managerial pay scale in England.
New Chelsea head coach, Xabi Alonso is also believed to be among the league’s better-paid managers, earning a similar figure to Arteta’s current contract.
Club officials believe the proposed deal is fully justified by Arteta’s impact, with his win rate now standing at 60.03% and his leadership credited for Arsenal’s sustained rise back into contention at the top level of English and European football.
