Arsenal are reportedly making strong progress in negotiations over a new contract for manager Mikel Arteta, with an agreement expected to be reached soon.
Arteta’s current contract, signed in September 2024, runs until the end of the 2026/27 season.
However, Arsenal are keen to secure his long-term future after he guided the club to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season.
The Gunners are said to be increasingly confident that Arteta will remain at the Emirates Stadium, with the 44-year-old reportedly settled at the club and determined to deliver Champions League success alongside his domestic achievements.
According to Football Insider, Arsenal are preparing to announce a ‘marquee deal’ for Arteta ‘soon’.
The report adds that the negotiations are ‘advancing in talks’, with the new agreement ‘considered a formality by all parties involved’.
Arteta currently earns £10m annually, with an additional £5m bonus for securing Champions League qualification.
His new contract is expected to come with a significant salary increase in recognition of his achievements.
The latest development follows an earlier update from transfer insider Graeme Bailey, who revealed that negotiations had been accelerated during the summer.
Bailey said, “Arsenal accelerated discussions during the summer, although Arteta was keen for sporting director Andrea Berta and the club’s hierarchy to prioritise new deals for key members of his squad before turning their full attention to his own situation.
“However, we can now reveal that talks have gone well and there is a growing expectation that an agreement will be in place by the September international break, which begins on September 25.”
Arsenal are also understood to be progressing with contract discussions involving several important members of Arteta’s squad, including Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Martin Odegaard.
The club’s hierarchy is keen to reward its leading players with improved terms as part of efforts to keep them at Arsenal and prevent interest from domestic rivals and major European clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The approach represents a shift from previous years when Arsenal struggled to retain some of their best players.
The club now believes its leading stars are more likely to remain as they see a realistic pathway to sustained success under Arteta.
Relations between Arteta and the Arsenal hierarchy are reportedly strong, with no major obstacles standing in the way of his new agreement.
There was some disappointment within the club after Arsenal failed to land an elite winger during the summer, with Morgan Rogers joining Chelsea while Vinicius Junior stayed at Real Madrid.
Arteta has instead opted to place his faith in Christos Tzolis, while Arsenal are expected to reassess their options in the winger market in 2027.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have also made a decision regarding the possibility of selling striker Viktor Gyokeres.
