Colombian pop icon Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy are set to headline the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City.
The duo will perform the tournament’s official anthem, Dai Dai, at Estadio Azteca on 11 June before the opening fixture between Mexico and South Africa.
According to BBC Sport on Friday, FIFA described the track as “a celebration of football’s power to unite people across cultures and continents,” in a statement announcing the performance.
The song’s title, an Italian expression meaning “let’s go” or “come on,” is expected to feature prominently during the ceremony.
Also billed to perform at the event are Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin and South African singer Tyla as festivities begin for the month-long tournament.
“We wanted a song that captures the energy, passion and global spirit of the FIFA World Cup,” FIFA added. “Shakira and Burna Boy bring together two of the world’s most influential musical voices.”
FIFA has planned separate opening celebrations across the three host countries. In Canada, singers Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette will lead pre-match entertainment ahead of Canada’s clash with Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on 12 June.
In the United States, pop star Katy Perry and rapper Future are scheduled to perform before the Americans face Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Shakira’s latest World Cup appearance adds to her long-running connection with the competition after previously delivering hit tournament songs such as Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) and La La La.
She is also expected to feature at the World Cup final on 19 July, where she will co-headline the competition’s inaugural Super Bowl-style halftime show alongside Madonna and K-pop group BTS.
