Residents of some communities in Ogun State are expected to experience a temporary power outage today, Thursday, following a planned maintenance exercise by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
TCN disclosed that the six-hour electricity interruption will affect residents in McPherson, University, and Ogunmakin areas between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the company explained that the outage is necessary to allow engineers carry out preventive maintenance on the 40MVA 132/33KV power transformer located at the McPherson Transmission Substation.
According to TCN, the maintenance exercise is part of efforts to sustain the efficiency and reliability of the nation’s power transmission infrastructure and reduce the likelihood of unexpected technical faults.
The company stated that the planned work would temporarily disrupt electricity supply by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to customers within the affected areas during the exercise.
Speaking on the development, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the maintenance was designed to ensure optimal performance of the transformer.
“The maintenance exercise is to enable TCN crew to undertake preventive routine checks on the transformer to ensure continued optimal performance.
Consequently, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to its customers in McPherson, University, and Ogunmakin during the period of the maintenance,” Mbah said.
TCN appealed to residents and business owners in the affected communities to bear with the temporary inconvenience, assuring them that the exercise is aimed at improving service delivery and minimising future disruptions on the transmission network.
The company added that power supply is expected to be restored immediately after the completion of the scheduled maintenance work.
