Security guards foiled attempted robbery at Oyo transmission substation – TCN

Security personnel at the Ogbomoso Transmission Substation of the Transmission Company of Nigeria have foiled an attempted robbery attack by suspected armed intruders who reportedly gained access to the facility in the early hours of Sunday.

TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, explaining that the attackers allegedly entered the premises after scaling the substation’s perimeter fence.

According to her, preliminary findings showed that the incident occurred between late Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday, close to the facility’s gate.

Mbah stated that the intruders advanced towards the gate house with the apparent intention of overpowering security personnel stationed at the facility.

“The suspects attempted to attack and neutralise the vigilante team on duty at the substation,” she said.

“However, the security operatives responded swiftly by firing warning shots, forcing the intruders to abandon their mission and escape through the same route they entered.”

She further revealed that some items believed to belong to the suspects were discovered near the perimeter fence after the failed operation.

“An early inspection of the area uncovered tools suspected to have been used for the attempted operation, as well as traces of blood and footprints leading to the escape route,” Mbah added.

The TCN spokesperson noted that a more detailed search conducted at daylight led to the recovery of a bag containing additional equipment believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing suspects.

She said the matter had been reported to relevant security agencies, adding that TCN was collaborating with authorities to investigate the incident and strengthen measures against future security breaches.

“No member of staff was harmed during the incident,” Mbah said, reaffirming the company’s commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and ensuring the safety of its personnel across the country.
