Shakira, Burna Boy team up for World Cup song

Nigerian Grammy-winning star, Burna Boy, has teamed up with Colombian pop icon, Shakira for the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The announcement was made through a collaborative Instagram post involving Shakira, Global Citizen and FIFA World Cup.

In the teaser clip, Shakira appeared in a bright yellow top and royal blue miniskirt while holding a football, as a preview of the song and accompanying music video was unveiled ahead of its official release on May 14.

The project marks Shakira’s return to the global football stage after her hugely successful 2010 FIFA World Cup anthem, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), which became one of the tournament’s most memorable tracks.

Released for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, “Waka Waka” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs, Latin Airplay and Latin Pop Airplay charts in July 2010.

The song also climbed to No. 8 on the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart and peaked at No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In addition, it spent 42 weeks at No. 1 on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart, making it Shakira’s longest-running chart-topper in that category.

The new collaboration has already sparked excitement among football and music fans worldwide, with Burna Boy becoming one of the notable African artists to feature on an official FIFA World Cup anthem.
