Former Liverpool defender and TV pundit, Jamie Carragher, has issued a live on-air apology to PSG manager Luis Enrique after a light-hearted CBS Sports exchange during post-match coverage of Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League semi-final win over Bayern Munich.
The moment unfolded on CBS Sports Golazo as the panel reacted to PSG sealing a second consecutive Champions League final appearance.
During the broadcast, former England defender Micah Richards jokingly shifted blame onto Carragher for Enrique’s absence from the interview segment, saying, “Because Jamie opened his big mouth, talking all the time, Luis Enrique doesn’t want to speak to us.”
PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi later brought Enrique into the live discussion, introducing him on air as “the best coach in the world,” prompting a warm exchange with the panel.
Addressing the PSG coach directly, Carragher used the opportunity to apologise for his conduct during last season’s Champions League semi-final between PSG and Borussia Dortmund.
“Luis, I would like to apologise for my behaviour in Dortmund, for the semi-final,” Carragher said.
He continued with a humorous explanation of his actions, adding, “I had a Dortmund scarf on, but sometimes, as we all know, when we have had a few drinks, we get a little bit carried away.”
Carragher then shifted to praise PSG’s recent performances under Enrique, saying, “We absolutely loved your team, what they did last year and you’ve been an absolute joy to watch for the last two years in the Champions League. Congratulations for making the final again.”
Enrique responded in a calm and friendly manner, brushing off the apology and keeping the exchange light-hearted.
“Thank you, thank you. You don’t have to apologise,” he said.
