Tinubu nominates Tegbe as minister of power

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, following the resignation of former minister Adebayo Adelabu.

The nomination, which has been forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation, was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, brings over 35 years of experience across both public and private sectors, particularly in fiscal management and economic reform.

“Tegbe is a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with extensive experience spanning more than three decades in both the public and private sectors,” the presidency stated.

The statement noted that Tegbe previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives focused on fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.

He is currently the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees efforts to deepen bilateral development cooperation between Nigeria and China.

Highlighting his experience in the power sector, the presidency said Tegbe has been involved in regulatory and institutional reforms, working with agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.

“The President expects the Minister-designate, upon confirmation by the Senate, to deploy his wealth of experience to drive critical reforms, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investment into the power sector,” the statement added.
