Unity Cup: Zimbabwe coach Tembo expects tough test against Super Eagles
Zimbabwe’s interim head coach, Kaitano Tembo, is looking forward to his side’s Unity Cup semi-final showdown against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The Warriors will face the defending champions at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic, on Tuesday, May 26, with a place in the final at stake.
The winner of the encounter will go on to meet either Jamaica national football team or India national football team in the tournament’s final.
Tembo Eyes Tough Super Eagles Test
Despite recognising the pedigree of the Nigerian side, Tembo remains confident in his team’s ability to compete.
“Nigeria is a top side with quality players, so we respect them. But at the same time, we believe in our squad,” Tembo said.
“Preparation will be key — organisation, discipline and making sure the players understand their roles. It’s an opportunity for us to compete and showcase our strength.”
Warriors Braced For Big Challenge
Tembo also described the Unity Cup as a valuable measuring stick for his squad as they continue to develop.
“We are approaching it with seriousness and ambition. Playing against strong opposition like Nigeria, as well as Jamaica and India, provides a good test for the team,” he added.
“These are the kind of high-quality matches that help players grow and give us a clear picture of where we are.”
