The Oyo State House of Assembly has dismissed reports of an alleged impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde, declaring its unwavering support for both the governor and the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin.
The lawmakers reached the resolution during plenary in Ibadan on Wednesday, where they unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the state’s executive and legislative leadership.
Presenting the motion, Majority Leader Sanjo Adedoyin described the impeachment rumours as unfounded and politically driven.
“These allegations are baseless, distracting, and politically motivated,” he said. “The Assembly remains united and committed to its constitutional responsibilities, and no formal communication or process suggesting impeachment has been initiated within the chamber.”
The House also addressed recent political speculations linking Governor Makinde, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and some lawmakers to alleged political tensions, dismissing such claims as entirely unfounded.
Earlier allegations by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose had suggested possible political manoeuvres involving the monarch, claims that have since been denied by both the state government and the palace.
Seconding the motion, Deputy Speaker Mohammed Fadeyi reaffirmed the unity within the Assembly and commended the Makinde administration’s performance across key sectors.
Similarly, Chief Whip Gbenga Oyekola distanced himself from any impeachment discussions, cautioning against the spread of misinformation.
“There is no division in this House. We are focused on governance and delivering democratic dividends to the people of Oyo State through quality representation,” he said.
“The rumours making the rounds exist only in the realm of speculation and should be disregarded in their entirety by the public,” he added.
The Assembly further reiterated its independence, stressing that it would not be influenced by any individual or group, while maintaining its support for the current leadership.
