Former England striker, Gary Lineker, has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo unfollowed him on Instagram after he openly declared Lionel Messi as the greatest player of all time.
During the same conversation, Lineker highlighted four iconic figures in football history, Pelé, Diego Maradona, Messi, and Ronaldo Nazário, notably leaving out the Al Nassr forward from his personal top tier.
The former England international has long been vocal about his admiration for Messi, a stance that now appears to have strained his relationship with Ronaldo.
Reacting lightheartedly, Lineker made a playful appeal to the Portuguese star to reconnect with him on social media.
“He doesn’t like me very much, Cristiano Ronaldo. I didn’t upset him by anything I said about him, other than the fact I’m honest and think overall Messi’s a better footballer,” Lineker told The Rest Is Football Podcast.
“He unfollowed me on Instagram. I’ll get over it. I will always like him. I’ve met him a lot of times. I know he’s got the hump with me. But that’s OK. And on that note… Please Cristiano… give me a call. Let’s be friends again.”
